What Is the Cobalt Additional Card Offer?

The Cobalt Card’s “Add-a-Card” promotion rewards you with 10,000 bonus points per supplementary card, up to two cards per account (20,000 points total).

Since supplementary Cobalt Cards are free to add, it’s an easy way to earn bonus points on spending you already do.

To qualify:

  • Add up to two new supplementary cards between the offer dates.
  • Spend $2,000 per card within three months of activation.
  • Bonus points post by March 12 2026 (Amex’s stated fulfillment date).

In simple terms: $4,000 in total spend = 20,000 Membership Rewards points. At 1 cent per point, that’s $200 back (5 % return) on everyday purchases you’d make anyway.

This is an excellent promotion because it effectively gives you a 5 % return in points on all purchases, including Amazon and gas – not just food and drink.

This Offer Applies to Other Amex Cards Too

This limited-time “Add-a-Card” offer is also available across other American Express products, including the Platinum, Gold Rewards, Aeroplan, Marriott Bonvoy, and SimplyCash Cards. However, the Cobalt Card stands out as the best-value option because supplementary cards cost $0 – unlike premium cards that charge annual fees for each one.

Check the current additional card offers to see how many points or statement credits you could earn. The same concepts from this article apply: meet the spend requirement on your additional cards within the offer period to unlock the bonus.

Steps for adding an additional Amex card
When adding a card to your account, you’ll need the supplementary cardmember’s name, email, phone number, address and birthday.

How to Add a Supplementary Cobalt Card

  1. Visit the Supplementary Cards offer page and choose your Card. Or log in to your American Express account.
  2. Select Add a Cardmember under your Cobalt Card (during the promotional offer).
  3. Enter the cardmember’s details (name, email, phone number, address, birthday).
  4. Cards arrive within about a week – activate each one right away.
  5. Track spending toward the $2,000 goal for each card.

My Real-World Test of the Amex Additional Card Offer

I wanted to see exactly how this worked – so I added two supplementary Cobalt cards under the current promotion.

You can add your partner, trusted friend, relative or neighbour. Some Reddit users even hint towards adding their dog as a cardmember…

It’s important to keep in mind, cardmembers must be at least 13 years of age, and you, the primary cardmember, are liable for all charges – so choose a person you can trust!

Fast approval and delivery

Both supplementary cards were approved instantly and arrived within a week. To activate them, I needed the supplementary cardmembers’ dates of birth – so keep those handy.

The spend window starts on activation day

Each card has 3 months to hit $2,000 in purchases ($666/month).

I left my pre-authorized purchases on my existing Cobalt card for simplicity, but have switched daily spending to the supplementary cards, as I know I’ll hit the minimum spend requirement.

Testing earn rates

I made two purchases:

  • A restaurant bill (normally 5x points on food & drink). When the points were posted in my account, I saw 5x points – no visible bonus on top of that.
  • An Amazon order (1x points on everything else). This also posted as 1x the points.

When will the extra points show up?

When I first added the supplementary cards, I didn’t see any extra bonus points appear in my account.

The purchases posted at their normal earn rates (5x on food, 1x on Amazon, etc.), but there was no visible “extra” multiplier attached to each transaction.

That’s because the Additional Card bonus is not applied transaction-by-transaction.

Instead, Amex tracks the qualifying spend behind the scenes and posts the bonus in a single lump sum after the promotional period closes.

In the fine print of the Fall 2025 promotion, Amex stated:

“Bonus points will be credited by March 12, 2026.”

In my case, the full bonus posted on February 26, 2026.

  • 10,000 Membership Rewards points for the first supplementary card
  • 10,000 Membership Rewards points for the second supplementary card

That’s a total of 20,000 Membership Rewards points, that can be transferred to airline or hotel loyalty programs, or used as a $200 credit statement!

Amex Additional Card Offer Bonus Points Posted
10,000 Membership Rewards points were credited for each supplementary Cobalt Card, for a total of 20,000 bonus points.

Based on this timeline, you should expect a delay between completing your minimum spend and receiving the bonus, even though your regular category earnings will appear immediately.

The Math: How the Additional Card Offer Adds Up

RequirementDetails
Spend per additional card$2,000 in 3 months
Max cards eligible2
Total spend for full bonus$4,000
Bonus points earned20,000 Membership Rewards points
Approx. cash value$200 (5% cashback on all purchases)

Because supplementary cards cost $0 to add, this offer is essentially a paperwork bonus – with no annual fee and minimal effort required.

What Can You Do with 20,000 Membership Rewards Points?

Book Your Flight with Amex Fixed Points Travel

Ready to turn your bonus points into real travel?

You can use your 20,000 Amex Membership Rewards points from this promotion to book flights directly through Amex Fixed Points Travel – no transfers or partner programs required.

Under the Fixed Points Travel chart, 20,000 points covers a round-trip short-haul flight within Canada or to the U.S., valued at up to $300 CAD (base fare) – before taxes and fees.

That means your Additional Card bonus alone could get you:

  • Vancouver to Calgary for a weekend getaway
  • Toronto to Montreal to visit friends or catch a show
  • Vancouver to Las Vegas, Phoenix, or Los Angeles (one way) for some winter sun

No blackout dates. No seat restrictions. You simply log in to your Amex Travel portal, choose Book with Points > Fixed Points Travel, and redeem your 20,000 points toward the flight.

This offer can easily turn a few months of everyday spending into a $300 flight credit.

If you prefer more flexibility, you can also transfer your points to Aeroplan (1:1) and redeem them for flights with Air Canada and Star Alliance partners – but for simplicity and speed, Amex Fixed Points Travel is the most user-friendly option for most Canadians.

Apply now for the American Express Cobalt Card and start earning toward your next flight.

Final Verdict: A No-Brainer for Cobalt Cardholders

Even with the delay in the bonus points posting, the Amex Cobalt Additional Card Offer is a straightforward win. You’re earning 20,000 points for spending you already planned.

For a card that already offers 5x points on food and drinks and 2x on travel, this offer is the easiest way to earn 5x the points on ALL purchases with minimal effort.

Whether you use those points for a $200 statement credit or book a short-haul flight through Amex Fixed Points Travel, it’s an easy way to turn everyday spending into real travel value.

Apply for the American Express Cobalt Card today to earn points on everyday spending – and watch for the next Additional Card Offer in your account.
