From now until July 31, 2018, RBC Visa Avion cardmembers can earn a 30% bonus when transferring RBC Rewards To British Airways Executive Club. While the RBC Avion program isn’t my favourite when using points for fixed-value redemptions, I do consider the RBC Avion Visa as one of my top travel reward cards for Canadians when transferring points to airline programs. Most of all, I like the Avion program for the RBC Rewards transfer bonus to British Airways that’s offered on a semi-annual basis, which is the only way I would personally consider redeeming RBC Rewards.
British Airways Executive Club is one of my favourite reward programs for Canadians, with several sweet spots providing exceptional value on certain award redemptions.
RBC Rewards Transfer Bonus To British Airways Details
There are a few key points to consider before taking advantage of this promotion:
This offer is available beginning June 15, 2018 at 12:01 PST, ending July 31, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. PST. Please allow up to 4 weeks for your RBC Rewards points to be converted and for your Avios points to appear in your British Airways Executive Club account. Once RBC Rewards points are converted to Avios, they may not be reversed/returned or converted back to RBC Rewards points. Payment with Avios prices can change with no notice given. A minimum of 10,000 RBC Rewards points must be converted, and the British Airways Executive Club account must be in the same name as the RBC Visa Infinite‡ Avion®, RBC Royal Bank® Visa‡ Platinum Avion, RBC Royal Bank Visa Business Platinum Avion, RBC® Avion® Visa Infinite Privilege‡, RBC® Avion® Visa Infinite Privilege‡ for Private Banking account or RBC Commercial Avion Visa. Once the RBC Rewards points have been converted to Avios, they are subject to the full terms and conditions of the British Airways Executive Club program including, but not limited to, those pertaining to flight booking and reward flight seat availability. British Airways, not Royal Bank of Canada, is responsible for the British Airways Executive Club program. This offer may not be combined or used in conjunction with any other offer. Other conditions may apply.
To initiate a transfer, simply login to your RBC Rewards account and select British Airways as the transfer partner, or call RBC at 1-800-769-2512.
Is It Good Value Taking Advantage Of The RBC Rewards Transfer Bonus To British Airways
I consider the transfer option to British Airways the best use of RBC Reward points, and we usually see an increased transfer bonus to British Airways Executive club at least twice a year, usually around this time and in the winter, with the last promotion offering a 30% bonus. That being said, unless you have a specific award redemption in mind that you plan on booking in the next few months, I might hold off for the next promo, when we could see a better transfer bonus offered (50% was offered a couple of promotions ago). There are a few great British Airways redemptions to consider, such as:
- Redeeming 25,000 British Airways Avios for roundtrip (economy) travel from the west coast of North America to Hawaii on Alaska Airlines
- Short-haul flights (less than 1,151 miles) within North America for 7,500 Avios each direction in economy
- Short-haul flights (less than 650 miles) outside of North America – especially helpful for connecting flights in Asia and Europe for only 4,500 Avios in economy or 9,000 in business class
Kyle recently wrote a post looking at The RBC British Airways Visa Infinite Card, which highlighted some of the great ways to redeem Avios. If you’re planning a trip soon, it could also make sense to get that card for the welcome bonus in combination with the current RBC Rewards transfer bonus to British Airways to boost your point balances quickly!
RBC Rewards To British Airways Executive Club Bottom Line
British Airways can be a great program for Canadians looking to book reward travel, and I consider it the best use of RBC Reward points, specifically when there is a transfer bonus being offered. While not as high as the 50% bonus offered a couple of promotions ago, this could still be a good opportunity to get more value out of your RBC reward points.
You have until the end of July to take advantage of this 30% transfer bonus, and must have an RBC Avion Visa card (business or personal) to be eligible. However don’t worry too much if you miss this one, as we’ll likely see another promotion next year, potentially with a higher bonus.
