Fairmont Chateau Whistler Gold Floor King Room Introduction
For this hotel stay I’m doing the review a little bit different, as I explained in an introductory post with all of the highlights. Rather than having one (really) long review covering all aspects, I’m breaking them into four smaller reviews, including this post of the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Gold Floor King Room, along with the following:
- Fairmont Chateau Whistler Gold Floor Lounge
- Pampered Pooch Pet Program
- Fairmont Chateau Whistler Dining Experience
Not only does this method allow me to get the content out a bit quicker compared to my traditional methods, but it also keeps things organized for our readers who may be very interested in the Gold floor experience or dining experience, but may not care so much about the dog-friendly aspects.
With that out of the way, let’s get to the review of The Fairmont Chateau Whistler Gold Floor King Room!
Fairmont Chateau Whistler Gold Floor King Room
We arrived at the hotel and were greeted by the friendly valet staff. The hotel was really busy, but service was friendly and professional. After getting our name, we were directed up to the 8th floor for private Gold Floor check-in.
The check-in process was seamless, and we had been advised of our upgrade to Gold thanks to our loyalty to Fairmont (Brad and I are both Platinum Elite members in the Fairmont President’s Club), and because we booked through American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts using our Platinum Card.
Our room, 868, was a standard Fairmont Gold King room, measuring approximately 365 square feet, which is definitely on the smaller side for luxury hotel rooms, though I found it quite cozy and kind of fitting as a mountain retreat.
The bed was incredibly comfortable, and featured the same high-quality linens and pillows found at any Fairmont property around the world.
The views from the bed overlooked the forest, and are probably the preferred views compared to the other side where you may get some mountains in the distance but also the front driveway and neighbouring buildings.
The gas fireplace was a nice touch, which is otherwise only found in suites (The Four Seasons Resort Whistler offers fireplaces in all guest rooms). The dog amenities were placed in front of the fireplace, and it took Rocco no time to make himself comfortable!
Meanwhile, Margo got comfortable on our bed, of course!
All rooms come equipped with a comfortable work desk, with plenty of power plugs and some stationary. There was a beautiful welcome amenity from the assistant to the General Manager, along with a handwritten welcome card.
Each Gold Floor room features a full bathroom with a deep soaking jetted tub, dual sink vanity, and walk-in shower. The finishes felt a bit dated to me, though everything was top quality and spotlessly clean. The entrance was just off the hallway left of the door.
The soaking tub was a great touch, and much appreciated after a long day of hiking!
Amenities were plentiful, including soft towels and toiletries my Le Labo (personalized for us in the large bottles).
The toilet was next to the walk-in shower on the opposite side, and while I would always prefer a partitioned water closet, at least it wasn’t beside the bathtub.
Closet space was ample considering the room size, and offered a lot of space for luggage storage along with space for hanging items. Two robes, slippers, and the in-room safe were house in the closet.
Fairmont Chateau Whistler Gold Floor King Room Bottom Line
I really liked this room! While not a huge difference compared to the Deluxe Slopeside View Room we stayed in a couple of years ago, the full bathroom and gas fireplace created a more relaxing atmosphere and a nice retreat after a long day of hiking!
My favourite aspects of the room:
- Forest views felt private and serene
- Cozy mountain decor and high-quality furniture
- Deep-soaking jetted bathtub
Some areas for improvement:
- Bathroom decor was feeling outdated (though high-quality)
- Overall room size on the small side at 365 square feet
- No patio
Overall, I wouldn’t say the slight enhancements in the room are worth the price premium, however, the personalized service from the Gold Floor lounge staff certainly does! Full review of the Gold Floor lounge and service coming soon!
