Introduction

Loyalty pays when it comes to staying at Marriott hotels. As a Marriott Bonvoy Amex Cardmember in Canada, you’ll receive a number of benefits to help elevate your hotel stay. For a low annual fee of $120 the Card pays for itself, with the biggest highlight being the annual free night certificate.

Let’s take a look at your Cardmember benefits:

Apply Now! The Amex Marriott Bonvoy Card

  • Welcome Bonus: 50,000 Bonvoy points
  • Annual Fee: $120
  • Rewards: Earn 5 points on every $1 spent on eligible travel and gas purchases in your first 6 months (up to 15,000 points). Offer ends May 6, 2024.

Receive 15 Elite Qualifying Nights for Silver Elite Loyalty Status

Cardholders receive 15 elite qualifying nights annually, giving you automatic Silver Elite status, which also gives you a boost to earn towards higher tiers.

Qualifying nights from the Personal and Business Cards cannot be combined.

Silver Status most notably gives you a priority late checkout, and you’ll earn an extra 10% bonus points on paid stays.

Upgrade to Gold Status to receive a room upgrade at check-in and a late checkout of 2pm.

Anniversary Free Night Award

On each card anniversary, enjoy a free night award valued up to 35,000 points. This can easily exceed the card’s annual fee of $120 when redeemed wisely.

We just booked the Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort & Spa In Victoria, BC for 39,000 points a night, a $250 value. Golf, spa, tennis, restaurants, and hiking are all at your doorstep at this resort, on breathtaking Vancouver Island, all for half the price with the Bonvoy Card!

Earn Gold Elite Status

Each year, you have two ways to attain Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status:

  1. Spend $30,000 on your card before your annual Card anniversary. That’s $2,500 a month on average.
  1. Stay 10 qualifying paid nights within one calendar year and combine them with the 15 Elite Night Credits from your Card.

Gold Elite status is valid for a minimum of one year. Upon the annual reset date, net purchases reset to zero. If you already hold Gold Elite status or higher, you’ll maintain that level instead.

If this works in to your existing budget, this is a no brainer to be earning points on daily purchases to put towards your next vacation or work trip.

Book 4 Nights, Get the 5th Free

When you use your Bonvoy points to book five consecutive nights at the same hotel, you can take advantage of the Fifth Night Free benefit, which allows you to enjoy the cheapest night for free.

This benefit uses a dynamic pricing model, where the least expensive night is deducted from the total cost when you stay for at least five nights. Be sure to look at planning a longer stay of five nights to maximize the value of your free night.

As a bonus, you can attach your annual free night certificate to your trip, and stay six nights for the price of four. That’s two free nights free at a Marriott hotel, just for being PointsWise!

Conclusion

The Marriott Bonvoy Amex Card is an easy sell for Canadians looking for a travel rewards Card.

Before paying full price for your next hotel stay, consider applying for the Bonvoy Card and get the benefits you deserve, for less money.
