Both the personal Platinum and Business Platinum Cards saw increased welcome bonuses on March 18, 2022.
Amex Platinum Card Canada Welcome Bonus Increased
Good news! The welcome bonus on the personal Platinum Card Canada has increased from 100,000 to 110,000 points. The last update to this Card was in October, 2021.
Here’s how to earn the welcome bonus:
- You’ll earn 90,000 Welcome Bonus points after you charge $6,000 in the first 3 months.
- You can also earn a total of 10 points for every $1 on eligible travel purchases for the first 6 months (up to 20,000 points).
- Offer ends May 11, 2022.
You’ll earn 3 points for every $1 in Card purchases on eligible dining and food delivery in Canada and 1 point for every $1 in all other Card purchases
If you’re looking to travel in the next few months, make sure to take advantage of this offer to earn some extra points.

Amex Business Platinum Card Canada Welcome Bonus Increased
The Amex Business Platinum also saw an increased welcome bonus of 110,000 points in line with the Personal Platinum Card today.
The welcome bonus requirements are a lot simpler on the Business Platinum:
- You’ll earn 110,000 Membership Rewards points when you spend $7,000 in the first 3 months.
Just like we saw with the Business Gold Card, the Business Platinum has changed from a Charge Card to “a Card with no pre-set spending limit”. That means you can technically carry a balance, but will be subject to a 19.99% interest rate. As always, we still recommend paying your balance in full each month, so this update should not change your spending habits.
Should You Apply for the Business Platinum Card?
The welcome bonus on the Business Platinum has steadily been climbing since May, 2020, so if you’ve held out this long to apply, now is looking good! And with a more straightforward earning structure to get the welcome bonus points, we recommend to go for the Business Platinum over the Personal Platinum.
