How Much Can You Earn With Amex Cobalt 3x Points?
For the majority of Cardmembers, the 3x points might not significantly impact their points balance compared to spending on food and drinks. Nevertheless, it remains a valuable perk that could influence your choice to opt for a streaming provider on the list.
If you spent $100 a month on streaming services, that would add up to an additional 300 Amex points per month.
300 x 12 = 3,600 bonus points per year.
3,600 points = $36 statement credit.
PointsWise Tip: An alternate strategy to boost your points is to purchase a gift card for a streaming service (Netflix, YouTube, or Spotify) from a grocery store using your Cobalt Card. This way, you can earn 5x the points on the gift card purchase and subsequently use the balance on the gift card to cover your subscription payment.
This strategy also allows you to earn points on streaming services that aren’t even on the list, such as gaming services like Xbox.
Limits to the Amex Cobalt Food and Drink 3x Points
You can only earn 3x points with purchases from merchants on the list above. Bundled services, or services billed through a third party are not eligible.
Unlike the 5x the points earned on food and drinks, there is no spend cap on streaming services.

It’s been a while since the list was updated. At the time of this post, the list of eligible streaming services was last updated on the Amex website on July 5, 2021.
Currently, YouTube and YouTube Music are not included in the roster of eligible streaming services for earning 3x the points with Amex. However, there have been unconfirmed reports of Cardmembers receiving 3x the points on these services, even though they are not officially recognized as eligible streaming services.
Conclusion
While the impact might not match the 5x points on food, the triple points on platforms like Netflix and Spotify add another dimension to this rewarding card.
The strategy of purchasing gift cards at grocery stores for 5x points, coupled with the potential for points on unlisted services, offers Cobalt Cardmembers more ways to earn points on everyday purchases.
