Both the Amex Aeroplan Reserve, and Business Reserve Card increased in value on March 1, 2022, when the welcome bonus jumped from 90,000 to 110,000 Amex points.

A 20,000 point increase for the same annual fee is always an exciting time to apply for a new Card and rack up those points.

The last update to these Cards was in August, 2021 when they were devalued down to 90,000 points from a record breaking offer of 150,000 points in June.

Prior to, the Cards were severely devalued during Covid when the welcome bonus was slashed in half in the Fall of 2022.

Is the Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card Worth it in Canada?

Since the welcome bonus just saw an increase of 20,000 points, yes, this is a great time to apply for either the Reserve or Business Reserve Card!

We likely won’t see anything close to the offer of 150,000 points that came last summer, but 110,000 points is the second best welcome bonus in the last 3 years so you’ll definitely come out ahead.

Welcome Bonus Requirements

You can earn up to a max of 110,000 Aeroplan points in your first year of Cardmembership, so if you have a trip in mind, start planning ahead now to use your points a year from now.

With the traditional minimum spend requirement, you’ll earn 20,000 Aeroplan points after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months.

Plus, earn 10X the points on eligible Air Canada, Air Canada Vacations, hotels, and car rental purchases for the first 6 months, up to 30,000 Aeroplan points.

Then, you can also earn 5,000 Aeroplan points each month you spend $1,000 in purchases on your Card for the first year. That could add up to 60,000 Aeroplan points.

March, 2022 Update: More Changes from Amex Canada

The whole suite of Aeroplan Cards in Canada received an increase to the welcome bonus, including the entry level Aeroplan Card.

The Cobalt Card however, wasn’t so lucky as it saw its first devaluation since July of last year.
