On May 2, 2023, Amex Canada announced some exciting new welcome bonuses for both the Amex Aeroplan Reserve, and Business Reserve Cards. Let’s take a look at the good news:
Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card Welcome Bonus Increase
The Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card welcome bonus got increased to 115,000 points today. This offer is only for a limited time and will expire on July 24, 2023.
Hint: When Amex Canada adds an expiry date to the welcome bonus, it has historically meant this is the best offer of the year, so if you’ve been thinking about getting this Card, now is the best time to apply!
After the deadline, the welcome bonus will drop back down, possibly as much as 20-30,000 points.
As we’ve started seeing more and more with Amex Cards, the welcome bonus is broken up into stages, so here’s how to earn the 115,000 Aeroplan points:
- Earn 45,000 Aeroplan points after spending $6,000 in net purchases on your Card within the first 3 months of Cardmembership.
- Plus, you can also earn 7,500 Aeroplan points for each monthly billing period in which you spend $2,000 in net purchases on your Card for the first 6 months of Cardmembership. That could add up to 45,000 Aeroplan points.
- You can also earn 25,000 Aeroplan points when you make a purchase between 14 and 17 months of Cardmembership.
That’s up to $3,200 or more in value when you combine your welcome bonus points and card benefits.
The last time we saw a better offer on this Card was about two years ago in July, 2021, when a whopping 150,000 Aeroplan points was offered. It’s doubtful an offer this substantial will return anytime soon, this is your next best bet.
If you’re planning a trip in the next year, you can use this welcome bonus offer to help get you there. However, the biggest downside to this offer is the dangling carrot of 25,000 points after your 1-year Card anniversary. Keep in mind you’ll need to pay the annual fee AGAIN on this Card to earn those points. This is sneaky wording, so be aware. Those extra points may not be worth an additional annual fee, so you’ll have to decide if you’d like to renew. Even without, 90,000 Aeroplan points should cover a significant portion of your flight.
Amex Aeroplan Business Reserve Card Welcome Bonus Increase
The Aeroplan Business Reserve Card also saw an increased welcome bonus today of 120,000 Aeroplan points. Again, this is a limited time offer and will expire on July 24, 2023.
Here’s how to earn the welcome bonus of 120,000 Aeroplan points:
- Earn 50,000 Aeroplan points after spending $9,000 in net purchases on your Card within the first three months of Cardmembership.
- Earn 7,500 Aeroplan points for each monthly billing period in which you spend $3,000 in net purchases on your Card for the first six months of Cardmembership. That could add up to 45,000 Aeroplan points.
- Plus, earn 25,000 Aeroplan points when you make a purchase between 14 and 17 months of Cardmembership.
Keep in mind you don’t necessarily have to be a business owner to apply for this Card, but if you are one, you can certainly write it off as a business expense.
Just like with the Personal Aeroplan Reserve Card, the Business Reserve Card hasn’t seen a bigger welcome bonus since July, 2021, so now is definitely a great time to apply!
